Abstract To investigate the relationship between 27 bp repeat polymorphism in intron 4in the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS4) gene and essential hypertension in the KazakhChinese population, (more…)

Effects of high dietary levels of fresh or oxidised fish oil on performanceand blood parameters in female mink (Mustela vison) during the winter, reproduction, lactation andearly growth periods

March 11, 2008 By: admin Category: Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Life Sciences

Damgaard BM; Borsting CF; Engberg RM; Jensen SK

Abstract The effects of high dietary levels of fresh or moderately oxidised fish oilon performance and blood parameters in mink females were investigated during the winter, reproduction, and lactation periods. Furthermore, the effects of the diets on kit performance wereinvestigated during the lactation and early growth periods. (more…)

A comprehensive survey of brain interface technology designs.

Mason,SG; Bashashati,A; Fatourechi,M; Navarro,KF; Birch,GE

Abstract In this work we present the first comprehensive survey of Brain Interface(BI) technology designs published prior to January 2006. Detailed results from this survey, whichwas based on the Brain Interface Design Framework proposed by Mason and Birch, are presented anddiscussed to address the following research questions: (more…)

Effects of carbohydrate-free diets on the performance of lactating mink(Mustela vison) and the growth performance of suckling kits

March 11, 2008 By: admin Category: Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Life Sciences

Damgaard BM; Borsting CF; Ingvartsen KL; Fink R

Abstract The effects of carbohydrate-free diets on body weight changes, feedconsumption, and plasma concentrations of nutrients, metabolites, and hormones in lactating mink andon growth performance in kits were investigated in a total of 108 litters during the lactationperiod of seven weeks. Evaluation of ewe performance in 795 selected sheep flocks in south-easternNorway

March 11, 2008 By: admin Category: Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Life Sciences

Simensen E; Hauge S

Abstract A study of ewe performance was undertaken in 795 sheep flocks based on datafrom the Norwegian Sheep Recording System. Herd level data included in the annual report for 1998were used as the basis for the study Average flock size was 75.3 ewes. The material was consideredas representative of the better and more motivated sheep farmers in the mountain valley regions insouth-eastern Norway. (more…)

Three-dimensional simulations of reactive gas uptake in single airwaybifurcations.

March 11, 2008 By: admin Category: Health Sciences, Veterinary Medicine

Taylor,AB; Borhan,A; Ultman,JS

Abstract The pattern of lung injury induced by the inhalation of ozone (O(3)) dependson the dose delivered to different tissues in the airways. This study examined the distribution ofO(3) uptake in a single, symmetrically branched airway bifurcation. Reaction in the epitheliallining fluid was assumed to be so rapid that O(3) concentration was negligible along the entiresurface of the bifurcation wall. (more…)

Effects of energy level and enzyme supplementation in wheat-based layer dietson hen performance and egg quality

March 11, 2008 By: admin Category: Agricultural and Biological Sciences, Life Sciences

Ciftci I; Yenice E; Gokceyrek D; Ozturk E

Abstract This experiment was carried out to examine the effects of energy level andenzyme supplementation of wheat-based diets compared with corn in laying hen diets on henperformance and egg quality. Experiment was conducted over 16 weeks with 27-wk-old Hisex (more…)

The relative contributions of compression and hypoxia to development ofmuscle tissue damage: an in vitro study

March 11, 2008 By: admin Category: Health Sciences, Veterinary Medicine

Gawlitta,D; Li,W; Oomens,CW; Baaijens,FP; Bader,DL; Bouten,CV

Abstract Deep pressure ulcers develop in tissues subjected to sustained mechanicalloading. Though it has been hypothesized that this damage mechanism results from local tissueischemia, it has recently been shown with a cell model that sustained compression can cause celldeformation, leading to tissue breakdown.
