Between Authenticity and Nostalgia

The article discusses the Yoruba ancestor cult, which is located primarily in southern Benin, specifically in the region of Abomey. The article analyzes the Yoruba as a means of understanding how society interacts with the past. The article mentions “Yoruba authenticity,” nostalgia, and the ways in which social actors relate, in a non-monolithic way, to the past. The article gives a history of the region of Benin, which is located in western Africa. The article mentions “egun” or “egungun” cults, masquerades, shrines, identity, and authenticity. The article also references the Gučdčgbe lineage and the artist Bernard Maupoil.

Brasergasilus bifurcatus sp. nov. (Copepoda, Ergasilidae, Abergasilinae) isdescribed. Specimens of the new species were collected from the gills and nasal fossae of theserrasalmid fishes, known as “piranhas”, Pygocentrus piraya (Cuvier, 1819) and “pirambebas”,Serrasalmus brandtii (Lutken, 1875). Abstract Blunt carotid artery injuries occur in 0.3% of blunt injured patients and maylead to devastating neurological consequences. However, arterial mechanics leading to internallayer subfailure have not been quantified. Twenty-two human carotid artery segments and 18 porcinethoracic aorta segments were opened to expose the intimal side and longitudinally distracted tofailure. (more…)
