Event-related potentials and secondary task performance during simulated driving

April 12, 2008 By: admin Category: Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Physical Sciences and Engineering

Inattention and distraction account for a substantial number of traffic accidents. Therefore, we examined the impact of secondary task performance (an auditory oddball task) on a primary driving task (lane keeping). (more…)

Extrapulmonary Pneumocystis carinii infection in an AIDS patient:a casereport

April 12, 2008 By: admin Category: Environmental Science and Ecology, Life Sciences

BACKGROUND: Extrapulmonary Pneumocystis carinii (EPC) infection is anuncommon condition, regardless of HIV status, and can occur as a complication of P carinii pneumonia(PCP). However, PCP is the most common severe opportunistic infection in patients with AIDS. Theincidence of EPC is variable, and in HIV-1-infected individuals it has been estimated to be0.06-2.5%. Epithelial myoepithelial carcinoma of the parotid gland with malignant ductaland myoepithelial components arising in a pleomorphic adenoma: a case report with cytologic, histologic and immunohistochemical correlation

April 01, 2008 By: admin Category: Environmental Science and Ecology, Life Sciences

BACKGROUND: To describe the cytologic, histologic and immunohistochemicalfindings of a case of epithelial myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) arising from a pleomorphic adenoma(PA) of the parotid with both malignant epithelial and myoepithelial components. CASE: A 29-year-oldfemale presented with a 1.5 x 1.5-cm, palpable mass of the left parotid of 7-8 months’ durationwith recent enlargement and pain. Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) revealed biphasic epithelial(small cell) and myoepithelial (large/clear cell) clusters arranged in a pseudopapillary andtrabecular pattern with abundant hyaline material with many naked nuclei, together with areastypical of pleomorphic adenoma (PA) was noted. Evaluation of abdominal fat pad aspiration cytology and grading for detection in systemic amyloidosis

April 01, 2008 By: admin Category: Environmental Science and Ecology, Life Sciences

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of abdominal fat pad aspiration cytology as a screening procedure for systemic amyloidosis and to assess the clinical usefulness of semiquantitative grading criteria of fat pad amyloid deposits. STUDY DESIGN: Aspiration cytology samples from 297 cases of abdominal fat pad were retrospectively analyzed for amyloid deposits. (more…)
